Spring Break!

Just thought I'd post today about the commencement of our spring break 2014. A lot is going on this week and many eventful plans can be made to ensure a pleasure-filled spring break. For instance, the PAC-12 tournament is finishing up in Vegas tonight with our own Arizona Wildcats facing the less dominating, but tough team that is UCLA. Another great and popular sporting event going on is the tennis tournament in Palm Springs at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden for the BNP Paribas Open. This is considered the fifth grand slam because of its purse size and the fact that all the highest pro's want to win it. The semi-finals are today; featuring Federer and Djokovic, we'll have to see who will make it to the finals, premiering tomorrow morning.
Traveling is also huge part of the break for everyone. Most of the news I've heard from other Arizona students is that Cabo is the place to be. I can only imagine how over-run that place gets with college kids during these couple weeks.
I, myself am heading up to San Francisco next week to visit some old friends who graduated from the University last year. It's been over 10 years since I have been up north, but with the cities main income being from tourism, I am sure I will have my handful of things to do up there. So get out and go where you want, but be sure and keep an eye out for our Wildcats and check out the tennis.

Some Must See Movies

There Will Be Blood
This 2007 American epic drama stars Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano, written, co-produced and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Being loosely based on Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel Oil!, the story follows a silver miner-turned-oilman set on a ruthless path for wealth during the Southern California oil boom of the early 20th century. Daniel Day-Lewis won the academy award for best actor for his portrayal of the main character Daniel Plainview. This movie truly is an American classic and has been recognized for its expression of tenacious greed in American culture. One of my all time favorite movies!

Saving Private Ryan
This 98' Academy Award winning American epic war film stars Tom Hanks and Matt Damon, and was directed by Steven Spielberg. It is set during the invasion of Normandy in World War II, noted for is extremely realistic and graphic portrayal of war, mainly its first opening scene depicting the Omaha Beach assault of June 6, 1944. This highest-grossing film of its release year has proven through the years to be a measurable film of the war genre. Other than this star-studded cast, the movie express many real and thought-provoking themes to catch the hearts and emotion of any who watch it. Another great movie to add to any collection.

No Country for Old Men
This 2005 American neo-Western thriller was directed, written, and edited by the amazing movie-making duo consisting of Joel and Ethan Coen. Based on the novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy starring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin, this film is set in the American-Mexican border during 1980 and follows the three characters as they ensue a game of cat-and-mouse with a money-filled briefcase from a drug deal gone bad. The Coen brothers exemplified McCarthy's themes of fate, conscience and circumstance in this impacting thriller. Winning for best picture and best supporting actor for Javier Bardems chilling portrayal of the ruthless killer, Anton Chigurh, I would definitely recommend this film to anyone, it is truly a masterpiece.

Must See Travel Destinations

I may not be the most experienced traveler, but having been to different parts of Europe for the better half of a year, I have seen some pretty memorable and unique places. The experience one gets from looking at some of the most beautiful sights the world has to offer can surely take your breathe away. Here are a few places that really made my trip worth it.

3. Florence, Italy

This magnificent city was founded during the classical Roman times and became a mecca of knowledge and innovation when it sparked the Italian Renaissance. From the many years of historic buildings like the Duomo di Firenze Cathedral to the amazing array of artwork such as the ever majestic statue of David, this city is filled with a culture rich in its own history. A must see place if one ever plans to go to Italy.

2. Bruges, Belgium

Bruges is a town located in northeastern Belgium surrounded by a maze of beautiful canals that run in and out of the city. With all the old time looking buildings, each street winds in a different direction making a walk through the town seem like a trip back centuries. Belgium is known internationally for their extreme brewing abilities, but a monk monestary outside Bruges holds the apparent worlds best beer. Holland is also just a short bike ride away and not to mention Colin Farrel starred in a movie about it. My advice if you want to party hard or relax in an old-timey city, go to Bruges!

1. Zermatt, Switzerland
Zermatt is easily my favorite place in Europe. Located back in a pocket of the Alps tucked under the mighty Matterhorn, this uniquely beautiful town is only accessible by train. Famed for its mountaineering and ski resorts, this German speaking swiss city offers more than just its amazing scenery, hiking and skiing. The town is also a one of a kind place with many buildings and cars looking toy-size due to its remote location. Nevertheless, any who stays here in the amazingly clear, crisp air will get the experience they came searching for.
